ABOUT KMTI and KCA SUMMER COURSES

KMTI and KCA annual summer courses have been legendary in their scope and impact over a period of three decades. From the beginning, they included courses in solfege, methodology and materials, conducting, chorus and chamber music. KCA added "Music Day" and idea of an artist-in-residence, and performance of a large choral work with orchestra. These courses continually elicited such comments as "greatest study experience I ever had, including college and master's program" or, "KCA has been a profound musical experience for me, but also a deep spiritual and emotional renewal."

Although courses of such length and scope are no longer possible in today's society, KCA, for its 25th anniversary and reunion, attempted to re-create such a course. The undertaking was intended for those who wished to experience once again the euphoria of ten, twenty or thirty years ago, and for those of the younger generation - that they might know what is possible if time and money are given to the cause.

Neither KMTI nor KCA ever had its own campus; instead, they rented the facilities of a university. Thus, the summer course and reunion activities were held on the campus of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where Dr. Sandra Mathias, an outstanding KCA graduate, is Director of the Kodály Institute.
